MSO Movie Night Feat. Cinta

This being my first post, I hope you all allow me to take a moment to appreciate the fact. Deep breath. After a few misfires, movie night went well with committee and members alike enjoying a fine enough flick. As James has been kind enough to enlighten us before, Cinta delivered as promised a movie about love in and around the backdrop of a cinematically choreographed Kuala Lumpur. You won’t be seeing any of those 6 pm jams here.

I’m in no position to be comparing Cinta to other recent local movies, seeing as I haven’t seen any of them, but what I will say is that Cinta was a refreshing change from other romantic movies that I’ve been forced to sit through. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that all who attended enjoyed the movie and the socialising, as well as the snacks that were passed around.

Thanks should go to Wai King who bore the brunt of work in setting up the movie.

Movie Night to-be

So, after checking our favourite movie-referencing cyber-empire, imdb.com the only thing I could find about the movie that will be shown (CINTA!) was this:

“Plot Outline: Five stories about love in the city of Kuala Lumpur.”

Well, this didn’t seat well for me. I don’t think that me knowing how many different stories there are in the movie would make me excited about watching this flick. Apart from that, I would say that 95% of the people about to watch this film will know that “cinta” means “love” in Malay (or atleast gotten one of those ‘I love you in 5921 languages’ e-mails). IMDB.com’s plot outline continues to marvel us with it’s usefulness.

So, instead of just walking blindly into this Movie Night, I did a little research. And yes, by research, I do mean searching for “cinta movie review” on google.com. After a tedious dilemma, I finally clicked the second link of the results and…

“‘Cinta’ is about five modern-day love stories set in the busy city of Kuala Lumpur and its everyday people. While each story is independent, the characters are connected to one another, either by circumstances and coincidence. Who knows, one of those five stories could be related to yours.”

Interested yet? The movie screening will be held on the 29th of March (this Thursday), so call Michelle at 0433748240 because we have limited seating! And yes, it’s FREE! See you guys there!

MSO City Tour

Market city, QVB( Queen Victoria Building) , The Sydney Opera House are the few places visited by the MSO city tour which was held on the 10th of March.

The tour started off with the members and committee meeting up at railway square at 10.30 am. The tour started at around 11 am when we started to move to Marker City.

We spent around 45 minutes at Market City looking around the city’s wet market as well as the shopping complex while doing a little bit of shopping.

The tour continued with us moving to QVB, while taking some pictures at Town Hall on the way there. We stopped at Pitt Street to have lunch. At around 1.15 pm we continues into QVB. There we took a walk around the building and some took the opportunity to carry more bags out of the building.

After QVB we then moved to circular quay, which is where, the famous Sydney Opera House is located. There the members and committee took the opportunity to have a photo session with the human manikin as you can see here.

Later, we then moved on to get the ferry ride, which is from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour via Luna Park.

If you guys didn’t know Luna Park is somewhat like a mini version of Genting Highlands. The tour then continued on the Darling harbour which was the final destination. There we took a walk around the harbour and went around Tumbalong Park. If anyone was wondering there is where the yearly organized Malaysian Fest (M Fest) is held. The tour ended at Darling harbour at around 4 pm.

As the committee of MSO I thank all those who came by and supported us. Hope you guys had a great time visiting Sydney City as we the committee did. Hope to see all you guys in our next upcoming events. Cheers!

MSO BBQ 2007

MSO Welcoming Bbq is the first event organized by MSO this year and it was organized successfully as a lot of members both new and old showed up to support. A big HOORAY to all you members out there.

Well as for the event, the committee got up real early and started preparing the sausages and chicken wings for members who were expected to show up at around 10 am. As for the new members who haven’t really explored around yet, Mso prepared its very own escort service which was lead by a few committee members. It was interesting though as the members actually got a free bus ride to the beach. HOW COOL WAS THAT !!!!! MSO ROCKS !!!!

Moving on, the bbq went on with all the members slowly showing up. One by one they came and by the time we knew it there was around 200 people around there. The committee continuously prepared the sausages and chicken wings for the members as you can see here. Oops wrong one !!!! Hehehehe .

This is more like it …….

After food, some games were played, which were organized by both the social and sport directors . One of which was speed dating whereby the committee will hand out few pick up lines and the guys are suppose to pick the galz up….. to be frank here those lines given were the worst ever !!! its more like how to lose a gal in 10 minutes.

However the most entertaining was Mso Mardi Gras. Here, groups are suppose to make up and prepare a guy in their group to perform the cat walk. Everyone enjoyed this as each faces was filled with joy and laughter.

In the end it was a spectacular event for both the committee and members. It was truly a day to remember.

City Tour

The city tour is coming up this weekend. We will be going through the QVB area, Pitt Street, and Darling Harbour. Just bring yourself and some cash for food and travel costs. You will only need to pay for bus costs. We will pay for the Ferry ride. It is advisable to have a Travelten. Meet up at the the main bus stop at Central Station (the big metallic bus stop facing TAFE) at around 10:30 a.m. We estimate the whole thing will end by 3p.m. but anyone’s free to leave anytime they want. You may want to bring an umbrella too in case it rains in this messed up Aussie weather.. haha.

Coogee Beach

A great big thanks to all those who attended the MSO BBQ at Coogee Beach. A report on the event will be coming soon so watch out for it in the Blog section.

Some piano books and a Commonwealth Bank letter was left behind at Coogee Beach addressed to “Miss Meng T Yap”. Please contact anyone of the committee members to get these items back. Thanks.

There have also been some issues with some people saying they never received the email about the BBQ. We are really sorry about this. Perhaps our data entry department missed out your details. If you are a new member and you never recieved a single e-mail from MSO to date, please inform the Webmaster at waikingyong@gmail.com.
