AISA - Congratulations to the Malaysian Student Association

The Assembly of International Students Associations (AISA) Sports Meet is an annual sports carnival organised by International student Services with the aim of promoting friendship amongst international students at UNSW.

This year the AISA Sports Meet was held during the Session 1 Easter break, from Tuesday 14 April - Thursday 16 April, 2009.  The competition over the three-days was very strong and in each of the sports there were some very close matches.  On Tuesday 14 April, the Singaporean (SSA), Malaysian(MSO), Chinese(CSA) and Indonesian(ISA) student associations battled it out during a gruelling one day Badminton Tournament at the Sydney Boys High Stadium.  Although all teams put up a good fight, SSA were too strong in the end, winning both the male and female games.

On Wednesday 15 April, the same teams were back to fight it out for first place in the Basketball tournament. There were some very close games, in both the men’s and women’s matches, however MSO ended up taking out first place in both the men’s and women’s games.

The AISA Sports Meet finished on Thursday 16 April with the Soccer Tournament.  Six teams participated in the soccer Tournament, including, SSA, MSO, CSA, the Iranian Sports Organisation (ISO), the Botswanan Sports Association (BSA), and the Vietnamese Cultural Ensemble (VCE).  It was the first time that ISO had participated in the AISA Sports Meet so it was fantastic to have them join the soccer and we hope that they can join us again in future events.  Although the soccer fields were a bit muddy at Centennial Park each team gave their best and put on an entertaining show.  After a thrilling but exhausting day, the finals came down to a very exciting game between MSO and SSA.  Both MSO and SSA’s scores from the previous day’s tournaments were so close that whichever of these teams won the soccer they would also be the winner of the overall AISA Tournament for S1 2009.  The competition between MSO and SSA in the final soccer match was so tough that neither team scored during the 2 halves.  The game then went into overtime during which MSO scored a goal, making MSO the winner of the soccer and thus the overall winner for the S1 2009 AISA Sports Meet.

Congratulations MSO and a big thank you to all of the student associations who participated, for making the AISA Sports Meet so exciting and fun!!

REVIEW: MSO BEACH BBQ @ COOGEE

COMETH RAYS, HAIL, RAIN & SHINE. WE FEAR YOU NOT.

First and foremost, MSO UNSW would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the members who made their way to Coogee for our WELCOMING BEACH BBQ. Hooray to our very first event this year! Coogee Beach was our hand-picked spot due to its well-known reputation as one of Sydney’s favourite beaches and the close proximity to home. For those still unfamiliar with directions around town, MSO provided our very own escort service led by charming Kai Xian and Sabrina. The turnout on that day was spectacular and when I say spectacular I mean “WHOA.LOOK AT THE LINE….” SPECTACULAR! =) We had more than 300 attendees of both freshers and oldies mingling in one of Sydney’s favourite beaches close to home.

n522752858_1407657_6208519.jpg     n522752858_1407656_1972680.jpg

The committee members *special drumroll for Mei* rigorously prepared sausages, onion rings and other grilled items while some distributed vegetarian and flavoured pizzas, garlic breads, drinks etc  assorted halal food. The barbeque pits never got cold and even the sudden storm left as quickly as it came, intimidated by the sheer enthusiasm of fellow MSOians. With the dark clouds gone and the sun out again, more food were supplied. Fellow MSOians baked *i mean basked* *coughs* themselves under the sun while meeting new friends and acquaintances.  Even beeps were honked by the petrol units whom amazed by the crowd, very “gently” and kindly reminded us to clean up the bbq area.

n522752858_1407669_4921631.jpg

For those who stayed and lingered long enough, one cannot miss out on the laughter pealed as members and red shirts partake in social games.

All in all, this event was a success and we hope all of you had as much fun as we did. Thank you once again all for supporting MSO.  This also goes out to committee members from other SUAMS, MSA and MASA . =) We do hope to see you in our next upcoming events. CHeerioZ~
