MSO Thredbo Ski Trip

Winter is coming and so is Semester 2.  There is no better way to get rid of the winter blues than by joining MSO and our partner associations from USYD, UTS and Macquarie Uni for a ski trip to Thredbo.  Thredbo is renowned for their ski resorts in the snowy mountains.  This would be a fantastic opportunity to experience the longest ski runs in Australia during winter.

Date  : 15 – 17 July 2009
Place : Thredbo, Snowy Mountains
Cost   : $420 members, $440 non-members

Package includes

  • Pick-up and return bus transport to/from UNSW, USYD and Macquarie Uni
  • 2 nights’ accommodation (multishare) at the High Country Motel
  • 2 hot breakfasts
  • 1 steamboat buffet dinner
  • 2 days hire for skis, boots, stocks, parka and pants
  • 2 days First Timer lift and lesson package which includes all mountain lift pass and a 2 hour First Timer group session at Thredbo
  • National Park entrance for 2 entries

How smooth are you…………… on ice?  Lets’ put some life into these cold and blue weather by ice skating at the Entertainment Quarter’s Ice Rink at Moore Park this Thursday evening.  The EQ ice rink is only available during these coming winter weeks and MSO always gives you the best deals with discounts.

MSO Charity Teddy Tea Party

Ever wanted to help but didn’t know how? In conjunction with Sydney Children’s Hospital Gold Week (1 – 7 June 2009), MSO will be organising a charity fund raising event this Sunday for everyone to do their bit for the kids of Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

Date: 24 May 2009 (Sunday)
Time: 11.30 a.m.
Location: Physics Lawn, UNSW
Theme: Alice in Wonderland

What can you do?
Simply show up dressed according to our theme with either a new toy or book to be donated to the children (new items only for hygiene reasons). Come along show the sensitive side of that tender heart of yours and join our picnic as we sip hot tea, nibble scones, savour muffins, curry puffs, spring rolls, chicken wings…… It would be sweet and deeply appreciated if you can spread some love by donating gold coins ($1 & $2 or even more!!) and notes to the official Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation collection tins. (Come on. The food is worth so much more!) We will also be organising some games if conversation on the green stales. =)

So get out of your crib, breathe some fresh air, enjoy the company of good ole’ friends and do your part in spreading love to make someone’s day a little better. Don’t forget to save up those gold coins!

MSO Dragon Boat Race

Calling all the ‘Vikings’ in UNSW to get involved in the most adrenalin-pumping event of the semester, MSO Dragon Boat Race which will be held this coming Saturday at Anzac Bridge Pier.  The race will be against Malaysian students’ association from USYD, UTS and Macq Uni.  We came in so close to winning last year, but this year victory shall be ours.

Miss the hectic night markets in Malaysia? Whether you are a local or international student, come to MSO’s very own Pasar Malam and satisfy your cravings for authentic Malaysian delicacies. So make your way down to the Roundhouse for some sumptuous satay, incredible carrot cake, irresistible nasi lemak and a wide variety of uniquely Malaysian food. You will also get a chance to enjoy performances and socialise with your buddies. This event is on for one night only, so do not miss your chance to relive those Pasar Malam nights in Malaysia.

What can you expect at MSO Pasar Malam?
•Abang Sam will be preparing his signature satay and his famous nasi lemak.

•Jenny will be having a stall with her infamous, homemade cupcakes.
•Every Pasar Malam needs a t-shirt stall and Ning Jia will make that happen.
•Singapore Students’ Association will be preparing carrot cake and will also be having dessert of cincau and bandung.
•Shisha Boys…… of course shisha.
•Ying will be whipping up apam balik.

Look out for what we have ‘in stall’ for you. This event is open to everyone, so bring your friends along to get taste of Malaysian culture.

Sports Carnival Support

Dear MSOians,

Join us as a supporter as we fight it out in our yearly sports event against other universities and societies. Did we not mention maintaining our title as champions? The game is on! The Sports Carnival is ongoing during the weekends of Saturday, 28th March 2009 and 4th April 2009.

MSO is calling all sports fans and cheer leaders to get together once again to support our team this Saturday at University of Sydney Aquatic Centre between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. So get over there to give our players the support they need and show our opponents what MSO and UNSW is made of.

Manly Beach Trip

Coogee is cool, Bondi is blazing, but nothing beats Manly Beach as one of Sydney’s most popular seaside destinations.  There is no better way to take a trip to Manly than with MSO and your friends.  So make you way down to Circular Quay for a trip by ferry across Sydney Harbour to Manly.  As promised, we will be giving you a fantastic deal you can’t resist.
