Report: MSO Movie Night

Who organised it? MSO
When was it? 20th May 2011, Friday from 5.30pm to 8.30pm
Where was it held? Law 202, Law Building, UNSW
How many people attended? Approx. 30
How much did it cost? Free for all!
What did we do?
Everyone arrived between 5.30pm to 6pm and we were all excited to watch the movie that was about to be shown, “The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines” a.k.a. “Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa”. Before the movie started, music was played, while those who came early mingled around.

Then, at around 6pm, the lights were turned off as the movie started. Everyone became quiet all of a sudden, as we were all trying to concentrate on the movie.

The movie started with an introduction of Merong Mahawangsa, who coincidentally met a Roman Prince, who was rather very fond of him. Then, he was asked to go on a voyage to escort the prince to Langkasuka, where he will meet his wife-to-be, the Princess of China. After that….wait, wait, wait…I’ll be spoiling the story if you haven’t watched it! Hee.

Anyway, all I can say is that the movie is a combination of romance, action and comedy, all blended into one. There were moments where we all laughed, almost cried and felt heartbreaks. Most of the time laughed, though..because there were some who laughed every now and then (don’t know why) at every random parts of the movie..that made the rest of us laugh along with them as well. Haha.

Well, we hope all of you who came enjoyed the movie as much as we at MSO did!
It surely was enjoyable for me! :D

However, if you have missed your chance of watching the movie with us, go watch it now! It’s a movie worth watching! :)
And remember to join us for our next event, Makan-Makan Night!
Who can resist free food, right? ;P

Testimonial awards 2011 MASCA

Testimonial Australia Awards is back, and this year we are starting fresh with a revamped format, new categories, and hopefully a greater recognition for our efforts.

What is ‘Testimonial awards’, you may ask? Well it’s simple really. You work hard in your studies, you are actively involved in the organisations around, and you’re a sports person – in conclusion, you’re an exemplary student. Therefore, we here in MASCA and Education Malaysia Australia think that you should get an award for that. A testimonial of our recognition to you for all the nights you spend cramming your brain to score those brilliant marks, for all the time you spend organising events and volunteering so that there is a better world for someone out there, for all the sweat and fat you’ve burned and all the Redbulls and Mothers you’ve gulped, – you deserve an award for that, and it’s called the Testimonial Awards.

This is no peanuts award. This is a stamp of approval from Education Malaysia and MASCA that tells every corporation out there, that the recipient of this award, is a brilliant person, who has strived excellently in academics as well as in extra-curricular during their student life.

This year, we think that all of you should be given a chance to be recognised. If you’re a Malaysian undergraduate and studying in Australia, you have a chance of winning this award.

These are the categories up for grabs:

Category Number of recipients Medium of award
Gold According to points 1 trophy + 1certificate + prize
Silver According to points 1 trophy + 1certificate + prize
1st year 1 1 trophy + 1certificate + prize
2nd year 1 1 trophy + 1certificate + prize
3rd year 1 1 trophy + 1certificate + prize
4th year 1 1 trophy + 1certificate + prize

1. ‘Gold and Silver’ category is reserved for final year students.

2. ‘3rd year’ is limited to students who are in a 4 year course (Usually Engineering, Science and Arts).

3. ‘4th year’ is students who are in a 5 year course (usually science and medic.

4. Students, who have received the awards in the past, are eligible for the award for the upcoming year.

5. This is just a proposal, depending on the number of applicants and the MASCA’s financial capacity, the number of recipients and the medium of the award may change.

Please refer the attached documents:
1) guidelines for the award
2) the form to fill in.
If you have any inquiries, don’t hesitate to drop an email at: testimonialoz@gmail.com
Cheers :)

Report: Pasar Malam 2011

Who organised it? MSO (Husna, Kaveiinaa, Khin Yew), KUNSW
When was it? 12th May 2011, Thursday from 5pm to 8.30pm
Where was it held? Beer garden, Roundhouse, UNSW
How many people attended? Approx. 200
How much did it cost? As much as you have spent on food at the stalls
What did we do?
We had students coming in and out at all times.

Even non-Malaysians had a good time that night as it was an unusual Thursday night at the Roundhouse because Malaysian food stalls surrounded the beer garden. Most of the stalls even managed to sell off all of their food.

This year’s PasarMalam was also joined by the Brunei students selling their famous local cuisine such as nasi katok and nasi pusu. The performances nearing the end of PasarMalam had us enjoying the acoustic music and singing from some of our fellow Malaysians, even some that we never knew had a really nice voice!

Towards the end of the night, we at MSO even sold our Papparoti in a cart… Haha.

Hope you enjoyed Pasar Malam! Here is your MSO committee at our very own stall..

Next year will be bigger and better. And most importantly, there will be more variety of food. Wait, not next year, we’re planning to have another Pasar Malam NEXT SEMESTER!! So, get your cooking skills on set and join us next semester! ;]
