Report: MSO By-election

Who organised it? Su Yiin
When was it? 25th March 2011, Friday from 6.30pm to 8pm
Where was it held? Wurth Room, Roundhouse, UNSW
How many people attended? 30
What did we do?
MSO held an Extra Ordinary Meeting (EGM) with by-election as the main agenda for the following positions – Treasurer, Honorary Secretary, Internal Secretary and Webmaster.
Nominees had to submit their nominations prior to the event alongside with their manifesto.

Much to our surprise, the turn-up for the by-election exceeded our expectations. It was good to see members coming to exercise their rights.

Each nominee had to deliver his/her campaign speech followed by a question and answer session. The election was conducted through paper voting. On the whole, the purpose of the EGM was fulfilled as responsible committee members were elected to the posts.

We wish to thank all those who stood for the elections and all members who came to support MSO. We hope you will continue to support us in our forthcoming events.

Congratulations to our 4 very enthusiastic newly elected committee members :
- Treasurer : Kay Vin TAN
- Honorary Secretary : Senk Siang THUNG
- Internal Secretary : Khin Yew CHONG
- Webmaster : Sue Jen ANN
And a big thank you to those who came to make a difference.

Poker Tournament Poll

MSO is planning to have a Tournament Night on the 13th of May, with the Poker Tournament as the Main Event. However, it won’t be your standard poker tournament. There will be buy-ins and participants will still be given chips, but participants will not be playing for cash, and instead will be playing for PRIZES!!

The rules and regulations will be your standard Poker Tournament rules (will be explained in more detail) with the last man standing winning the grand prize, with other final table participants being awarded other prizes as well. If in the event the tournament goes on longer than expected, placing will be decided based on the amount of chips.

Please let us know what you think about the Poker Main Event and whether YOU want us to create this tournament for YOU!

Please Vote Here!

Thank you all! =)

Report: Moonlight Beach Chaos

Who organised it? Alexa & Kaveiinaa
When was it? 19th March 2011, Saturday from 7pm onwards
Where was it held? Maroubra Beach
How many people attended? Approx. 50
How much did it cost? Free of charge for members and $2 for non-members
What did we do?
The event started at around 6.30pm with some members meeting up at Uni main walkway… When we reached there, the rain was pouring, but we managed to find shade. Pizza, chips, drinks were offered. Everyone mingled for about an hours as the crowd gathered.

We organised a continuos series of games on the beach by splitting the crowd into 5 groups of 8. The first game was where groups lined up and each group member had to be blindfolded except for one person (the eye). Water balloons were hidden in the sand in advance. The eye had to lead the members to where the balloons were and pick them up. The eye however, was not allowed to touch the balloons! :P

The following game was a gastronomical adventure, where each group was given 5 eggs to be eaten. The fastest group won.

As a tie breaker, we had a sprinting game where participants sprinted for around 25 metres.

To top it all, two members were thrown into the sea, and as a ritual, one of them was our very own president, Ms Su Yiin.

Although it was a cold and windy day, the rain cooperated with us and it started pouring again after all the games had ended. The winning group won $150 worth of Aseana vouchers.

With a full stomach, sandy body and aching arms and legs, everyone went back with a smile on their faces.

This event is organised every year. As such, see you all next year for a different Moonlight Beach Chaos. Hopefully we’ll get to see the moon then, at least!

Report: MSO City Tour

Who organised it? Jie Han & Kevin
When was it? 12th March 2011, Saturday from 9am to 4pm
Where was it held? All over the city
How many people attended? 15
How much did it cost? Cost of the bus tickets
What did we do?
We brought students new to Sydney to explore the main attractions Sydney has to offer. Our journey to the various locations in the city was possible with the use of public transport and by walking.

It all started out in Bondi Beach, where we had fun under the sun.

Then, we went to the city for some sightseeing. A must see is the Opera House in Circular Quay! Sorry, no photo with the Opera House.

Next, we went to the Rocks Market.

When our stomachs were growling for food, we went for lunch at the ever so famous, Pancakes on the Rocks.

We walked around a little bit more, but then it got cloudy and thus, we decided to end our day with a high note.

Join us next time for the next City Tour and we would explore more exciting destinations within Sydney city.

Report: MSO Welcoming BBQ

Who organised it? Mark & Kevin
When was it? 5th March 2011, Saturday from 10am to 2pm
Where was it held? Coogee Beach
How many people attended? Approx. 100
How much did it cost? Free of charge!
What did we do?
This event was this year’s first semester’s Welcoming BBQ party. Both old and new Malaysian students from UNSW came together for a scrumptious awesome BBQ over at Coogee Beach!

The warm summer breeze by the beach made the occasion very enjoyable. There was heaps of food available for all to enjoy, such as:
- BBQ chicken wings
- Chicken sausages
- Domino’s Pizza!

During the BBQ, both new and older Malaysian Students had a good time mingling with each other. It was a great opportunity for senior Malaysian Students to share their invaluable tips and advices to the new Malaysian students at UNSW. We also played several games and had lots of fun!

In the end, people left with a big smile and a BIG tummy! The event was a success, thanks to those who were present!

As for those who were unable to join us, TAK PAYAH TAKUT! There will be a second semester, Welcoming BBQ party and it will definitely satisfy your hungry appetite till you can’t take it no more!
